Williams Hall, built in 1952, is named after Charles Burgess Williams. A member of NC State's first class, Williams was its valedictorian and captain of the football team. Later, he became a charter member of the Agronomy Society of America. At NC State--where he worked for over 50 years--he served as head of the Department of Agronomy, Director of the Agriculture Experiment Station, and Dean of Agriculture at NC State (his successor as Dean was Benjamin W. Kilgore [Kilgore Hall]).
