Alexander Hall, built in 1940 and renovated in 1990, was one of five dormitories built with support from the Public Works Administration to alleviate a shortage of dormitory space at NC State. It is named after Sydenham Bernard Alexander, Jr., whose father supported the establishment of the university in the North Carolina State Senate. Alexander, a manager and executive in the textiles industry, served as president of the Alumni Association during the Great Depression.
