After the new D.H. Hill Library opened in 1954, the older building was renamed after Eugene Clyde Brooks, and now houses the College of Design. From 1923 to 1935, Brooks served as president of NC State. Under his guidance, the university was organized into schools (now "colleges") and it became part of the Consolidated University of North Carolina, the precursor of the UNC System.
