Introduction - A Comprehensive Master Plan
The Libraries' Master Plan for facilities, which addresses space issues over the next 20 years, was completed and approved in 2002/2003 with input from students and faculty. It calls for:
- Renovating the East Wing of the D. H. Hill Library (Phase I)
- Building the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on Centennial Campus (Phase II)
- Demolishing and rebuilding the West (Erdahl-Cloyd) Wing of the D. H. Hill Library (Phase III)
- Adding onto the Centennial Campus library (Phase IV).
Phase I, the East Wing renovation, was completed in early 2007. Funded by $9.2 million in 2000 Higher Education Bond monies and private donations, the project reclaimed approximately 20,000 square feet of former staff workspace to create a technology-rich Learning Commons and a new Special Collections Research Center including a reading room, exhibit gallery, and conservatory.
James B. Hunt Jr. Library Building Project
Phase II, planning and construction of the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on Centennial Campus, is currently underway. The NCSU Libraries has developed a Vision for the James B. Hunt Jr. Library. This much-needed library building is expected to be completed in 2012.
