The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Head of Metadata & Cataloging to lead the transformation of monographic workflows from item-by-item cataloging of mass-published, print materials towards workflows that prioritize electronic access to the collections and the discovery of the Libraries hidden special collections. This management position offers the opportunity to join a department that is committed to developing user-centered, transformative approaches to cataloging in a changing landscape of bibliographic control and in collaboration with colleagues across the Libraries. This role is one of several Associate Head positions the NCSU Libraries has established in its major departments as part of its commitment to developing future leaders for academic and research libraries. He or she collaborates across the Libraries to minimize manual processes, striving continuously for workflow innovation, efficiency, and data consistency. The incumbent develops cataloging curricula and coordinates cataloging training across technical services, sets targets and oversees outcomes for the Libraries' expedited cataloging processes, and works closely with the Special Collections Research Center to improve the accessibility to its hidden collections. The Associate Head participates in planning, serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. She or he represents the department in the absence of the Head. Librarians at NCSU are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Reports to the Head of Metadata & Cataloging.
