ASSOCIATE HEAD, ACCESS & DELIVERY SERVICES

Vacancy Announcement

The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Head, Access and Delivery Services.  This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic department as one of four librarians in a staff of 35 working to provide a welcoming atmosphere and top-quality services for the university community.  Access and Delivery Services encompasses circulation, collection maintenance, print and electronic reserves, current periodicals, interlibrary loan, microforms, media, and remote shelving operations.  Some services are offered 24 hours a day during the fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities

The Associate Head shares leadership of a department that is engaged in developing and implementing next-generation user services, personalized to bring needed information to the user, any time, any place.  The incumbent provides front-line management and support of circulation and collection maintenance services, staffed by 13 full time employees and a large cadre of student assistants.  Supervising, coaching, and developing staff are key responsibilities.  The Associate Head recommends, articulates, and administers library access policies for the University community and the public, and maintains active, effective communication with library employees and user groups.  In collaboration with other departments, she or he helps customize and extend the integrated library system (SIRSI Unicorn) to advance services and deliver essential management information.  The Associate Head participates in library planning and serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams.  Librarians at the NCSU Libraries are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.  Reports to the Head of Access and Delivery Services.

Qualifications

Required:

ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree in library or information science and two or more years relevant experience, including supervisory experience.  The successful candidate will have proven experience in and commitment to providing quality customer service and familiarity with issues and trends in access and delivery services. Information technology skills in relevant areas, such as database, integrated library systems, and Web applications is expected.Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues is essential.  Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace, and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population is expected.  Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities are essential.  Candidates should demonstrate a record of ongoing professional development.

With a staff of 280+ FTE, the Libraries has nearly 3.6 million volumes in its collection, acquires more than 54,000 print and electronic serials, and has a total annual budget of over $25 million, with approximately $9 million allocated to collections.  The Libraries is the lead server site for NC LIVE (North Carolina Libraries for Virtual Education), a multi-type library initiative, making digital resources accessible to North Carolina citizens.

The NCSU Libraries is a founding member of SOLINET and a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Digital Library Federation, the Coalition for Networked Information, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, the Council for Library and Information Resources, and the Center for Research Libraries. Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, and North Carolina State University form the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN), with combined resources exceeding 13 million volumes and collections budgets totaling more than $29 million.

 

Salary and Benefits

The Libraries offers a highly competitive salary in recognition of  applicable education and experience for this position.  Relocation allowance provided.  Librarians have non-tenure track faculty status (without levels of rank).
