Using NTRS...

for Doc ID Numbers

If the citation you have lists a NASA report number, use the NTIS database to crosswalk your report number to the corresponding document ID number in order to determine which CD-ROM you need.

Here's how:

  1. In the NTRS advanced search, put your report number into the appropriate search box. Do NOT use hyphens. For example, if your report number is NASA-TP-2867, enter it like this: NASA TP 2867.
  2. When your record is retrieved, if there's no link to fulltext, click on the link that says "No Digital Version Available - Order This Document."
  3. Look for the Doc ID field--that is the number needed to get the CD-ROM copy of the report.
  4. Ask at the D.H. Hill Reference Desk and staff will use the Doc ID number to retrieve the appropriate CD-ROM.
  5. You can print these documents out using library computers and your copy card, download the reports to your "K" space, or check out the CD-ROM.

to find Reports Online

Using NTRS (NASA Technical Reports Server) for Fulltext Online

At the advanced search screen, put your report number into the appropriate search box. Do NOT use hyphens.

For example, if your report number is NASA-TP-2867, replace the hyphens with spaces so it looks like this:
NASA TP 2867.

When your record is retrieved, look for a link to fulltext.

If there is no online version, you can use NTIS (see Using NTIS for "N" Numbers) to find the "n" number for retrieving a microfiche copy of the report.
