NASA Technical Reports
Using NTIS for "N" Numbers
For certain years, NASA technical reports in microfiche are shelved
by a NASA accession number. You need to get that accession number
to retrieve your report for those years. Here’s how to do
that:
Here's how:
- 1. If you have the report title, go to the NTIS
database and search by report title. When you get to the record
for your report, the "n" number you need is listed
in the field called "Accession Number."
-
- 2. If you do not have the title, and have only a report number
there are 3 steps:
-
- 1. Use the NTRS
database to search for your report's title. Go to NTRS,
use the report number field search in the Advanced Search
screen,
-
- 2. Enter the report number without punctuation, but leaving
spaces between elements. For example: TP 2867
-
- 3. Once you locate the report and get its title, you can
search NTIS
by the report title to retrieve an "n" accession
number.
Below are examples of report numbers converted to "n"
numbers.
