EndNote: Resources and Information

Librarian: Eleanor Smith

EndNote is a citation management software package that allows you to store, manage, and search for bibliographic references. EndNote can help you effectively organize and manage citations while conducting research, incorporate references into word processing documents, and create independent bibliographies in a variety of styles.

NOTE: A web-based alternative to EndNote is available. RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool that is similar to EndNote and allows you to search for, store, manage, and output bibliographic references. In order to use RefWorks, users must first create an individual account (free of charge). For more information, see RefWorks.

EndNote 7 and earlier - Connection File for NCSU Libraries Online Catalog

Many import filters and connection files (for use with electronic resources such as online catalogs and databases) are available as part of the EndNote program. However, for versions of EndNote prior to version 8, it is necessary to download the connection file for the NCSU Libraries Catalog.

Instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.endnote.com/support/enconnections.asp
  2. Select the appropriate platform: Win or Mac
  3. Sort by Information Provider
  4. Choose 'Filtering Options' and filter by Library Catalog. Locate the file for the North Carolina State University library catalog.
  5. Click on the FTP link and download the file. Save on the local hard drive, in the EndNote Connection Files folder. On a PC: My Computer > Local Drive (C:/) > Program Files > EndNote [Note there are folders for Styles, Connection Files, and Import Filters].
