Financial Markets
- Morningstar Investment Research Center has stock performance, recommendations, and general market information, and reports on major movers and shakers. This is a NC Live resource, and is accessible to anyone living in North Carolina, with a public library card.
- Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage has detailed information on companies and markets. Check the investment research section on the bottom left of each company page for expert, weekly investment research.
- Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is our premier source for large-scale data on stock markets and individual companies.
- Value Line Library has investment and market research.
Financial Ratios
- Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios (Print)
- Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios (Print)
- RMA Annual Statement Studies (Ratios, Print & Online)
Company Financials
- Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage is a great starting point for public company finances. Reports available include any put out by the company, SEC required reports like the 10-K, 10-Q, and more.
- CalcBench has SEC filings for public companies, with an Excel add-in to make accessing the data much easier. SEC filing footnotes and tables are also available.
- PrivCo has financial information for private companies.
- Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis Academic) contains SEC-required reports from public companies and information from Corporate Affiliations showing the structure of the company. This is helpful for navigating company hierarchies while exploring the finances of an umbrella company or a large organization.
- The Securities & Exchange Commission’s EDGAR has information on SEC filings and a current findings. Some historical SEC filings are available, but access tends to cut off after 20 years.
- Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS) has finance information on companies and markets, available in downloadable formats.
Bloomberg Terminal
The Libraries has one Bloomberg Terminal on the 9th floor of D. H. Hill Jr. Library which can access financial, economic, and commodity information. You can sign up at the Terminal for the free Bloomberg Market Concepts certification, a 12-hour tutorial on the Terminal functions. Access is restricted to NC State faculty, students, and staff.
Banking Information
- FDIC.gov provides financial information on specific banks, analyses on the banking industry and economic trends.
- IBISWorld provides annual industry reports on commercial banking in the US.
- The ABA (American Banker's Association) is a trade association for the banking industry. The Research and Analysis section is helpful if looking for information on the current state of banking in the U.S.
- The NCUA (National Credit Union Administration) is an independent federal agency, that charters and supervises federal credit unions and insures savings in federal and most state-chartered credit unions.
