Real Estate, Securities, and Planned Giving
Real property, either in its entirety or in part, can be deeded to The NC State University Foundation to benefit the Libraries. It is possible to arrange a sizable tax deduction by deeding a home to the Libraries, while continuing to occupy the property for life. For more information please see NC State's Real Estate Donation Page.
Donations to NCSU Libraries can be made in the form of securities and stock certificates. Donating securities can help minimize the impact of capital gains and the potentially large increase in income from sale of securities.
One of the biggest sources of philanthropic support comes in the form of planned giving. Friends of the Library hosts a Planned Giving seminar annually each fall, and can help you learn more about the advantages to planning your estate.
IRA Charitable Rollover
Support the NCSU Libraries with the IRA Charitable Rollover – Still One of the Best Options Available:
Are you over 70 ½? The opportunity to transfer as much as $100,000 directly from your IRA to the NC State Foundation, Inc. will lower your taxes and support the Libraries – whether or not you itemize your deductions. With income tax rates raised up to 39.5%, plus up to 23.8% tax on capital gains, plus state tax up to 8% on top of that, getting your AGI as low as possible is crucial. For many of you, moving $100,000 from your AGI through a Charitable IRA Rollover will move you into a much lower overall tax bracket, while providing your support for the NCSU Libraries (which includes the DH Hill Library, the Hunt Library, and the branch libraries within the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Natural Resources, and the College of Design.)
- If you have not yet taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement
- Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference your donation is making
