State Climate Office of NC Weather & Climate Data
Overview | Agricultural Weather Network (AgNet) | Cooperative Observer Station Data | Documentation
Overview
From the State Climate Office -- The State Climate Office of North Carolina is the primary source for NC weather and climate data . The SCO is actively involved in all aspects of climate research, education, and extension services. Both the Operations Center and Research Lab are located in the Research III Building on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University.
Agricultural Weather Network (AgNet)
North Carolina Agricultural Research Service (NCARS) of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University maintains a network of automated weather stations (see map) located at most of the outlying research stations and field laboratories. Hourly data is available for free download, see: http://www.nc-climate.ncsu.edu/agnet/index.html. Variables available include:
- Air temperature at Level 1
- Air temperature at Level 2
- Relative Humidity at Level 1
- Relative Humidity at Level 2
- Precipitation
- Wind Speed
- Wind Direction
- Barometric Pressure
- Soil temperature
- Solar radiation
- Photosynthetically active radiation
- Other Sensors
Cooperative Observer Station Data
The State Climate Office (SCO) makes available hourly and daily data for dozens of meterological monitoring stations (see map above) that collect data (view a table of all Cooperative Observer Stations) or see map. Station summaries are viewable online at: http://www.nc-climate.ncsu.edu/sco/stations/services.html. Data may be requested via the Automated Data Request Form. Variables available include:
- Temperature
- Precipitation Amounts
- Climatological Normals
- Growing Season Summaries
- Annual and Seasonal Climatic Changes
- Derived Parameters such as Degree Days, Precipitation Recurrence Intervals
- Records of Extreme / Severe Events such as Flooding, Droughts, Hail, Tornadoes,
- Hurricanes
