Description:
Abstract:
GTOPO30 Global Digital Elevation Model (South East, one of six data sets) represents gridded 30-arc second (approximately one kilometer) elevation for the non-SRTM coverage area (north of 60 degrees North and south of 56 degrees South latitude) of the world. These data were developed by the U.S. Geological Survey's EROS Data Center in 1996 from a variety of data sources. The pixel value represents the elevation in meters.
Purpose:
GTOPO30 Global Digital Elevation Model provides a base map layer displaying global elevation information for geographic analysis on global, regional, and national scales for non-SRTM coverage areas.
Supplemental_Information:
Largest scale when displaying the data: 1:1,500,000.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The following steps were performed by ESRI: Copied 2005 Global Digital Elevation Model (GTOPO30) and renamed it. Performed an initial clip on the GTOPO30 data to create two separate GTOPO30 ESRI Grids that cover the regions of the world that are not covered by the SRTM data (SRTM coverage extent is 60ø N to 56ø S). The clip creates approximately two and a half degrees of overlap with the SRTM coverage extent (The final GTOPO30 data delivered has a two-degree overlap with the SRTM data, but during interim processing a two-and-a-half-degree overlap was used to ensure better results during the GTOPO30 hillshade generation). Set all NoData pixels (ocean) in the two clipped GTOPO30 ESRI Grids to 0 to maintain consistency with the SRTM elevation data. Clipped the two GTOPO30 ESRI Grids to create six regional ESRI Grids (North West, South West, North Central, South Central, North East, and South East). Each ESRI Grid has a two-degree overlap with the neighboring GTOPO30 and SRTM data. Converted the GTOPO30 elevation ESRI Grids to 16-bit signed integer JPEG 2000 raster datasets using a compression quality of 100. Calculated raster statistics for the GTOPO30 elevation JPEG 2000 raster datasets. Created ArcGISr layer files (.lyr).
