U.S. Detailed Streets represents detailed streets, interstate highways, and major roads within the United States. U.S. Detailed Streets is part of StreetMap USA. StreetMap USA is a dataset in Smart Data Compression (SDC) format that provides nationwide streets display, routing, and geocoding for the United States. It contains a TIGER 2000-based streets dataset, enhanced by ESRI and Tele Atlas, and prepared for routing within the StreetMap Find Route dialog. StreetMap USA data is provided in the ESRI Data & Maps media kit on the ESRI Data & Maps/StreetMap USA DVD.
U.S. Detailed Streets provides nationwide streets display, routing, and geocoding for the United States.

Address attributes are pre-standardized based on ESRI U.S. Streets standardization rules.
The shapefile is loaded into ArcSDEr for network verification. The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format with ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2). The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDEr to verify and validate the geometry.
After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
The geospatial part of this data set was extracted from the 2000 Census TIGER/Liner files. The positional accuracy varies with the source materials used, but generally the information is no better than the established national map Accuracy standards for 1:100,000-scale maps from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). To improve the accuracy, Tele Atlas ran a process against the entire nationwide database. The level of positional accuracy in the StreetMapT files is not suitable for high-precision measurement applications such as engineering problems, property transfers, or other uses that might require highly accurate measurements of the earth's surface.
Attribute and geospatial data
The following steps were performed by ESRI: Translated Tele Atlas TIGER/Line data to shapefiles using Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) by Safe Software Inc. Updated roads classification with ArcGIS 8.3 using Tele Atlas reference data. Created new attribute columns with ArcGIS 8.3 for enhanced display and labeling. Standardized geocoding attributes of shapefiles using ArcGIS 9.0 and StreetMap 9.0 rules base. Loaded data into ArcSDE 8 for network verification. Performed minor edits with ArcGIS 8.3 to establish network connectivity. Compressed data to SDC format with ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional (DDKP).
The following steps were performed by ESRI: Recompressed the data to SDC format with ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2). Removed duplicate attributes L_F_ADD_INT, L_T_ADD_INT, R_F_ADD_INT, and R_T_ADD_INT. Adjusted the order of attributes.
The following steps were performed by ESRI: Updated the routing indexes and address locator files.
