What's new in ESRI Data & Maps

There are many changes in all areas of the 2004 version of ESRI Data & Maps. The major areas of change are for the U.S. and image datasets. Major changes for the U.S. datasets include updated Counties, Tracts, Block Groups, and ZIP Codes, as well as new Core Based Statistical Areas and Highways. Also, the StreetMap USA data with improved highway connectivity is now present in Smart Data Compression (.sdc) format. The image dataset has been expanded to include four new NASA images, two new Digital Elevation Models, and a higher resolution WorldSat Color Shaded Relief image. At the world level, country codes have again been updated to reflect the current political state of the world. In addition, a variety of minor corrections and enhancements were made to many of the other Data & Map 2004 datasets.

All vector data in the 2004 version of Data & Maps is available only in SDC format. The vector data is located on the Data & Maps and StreetMap USA DVD, and on the two Data & Maps CDs. The StreetMap USA data on the Data & Maps and StreetMap USA DVD is provided in SDC format as well. Raster data on the Image Data DVD is provided in various formats, such as Arc Info Grid and MrSID formats. Map document (.mxd) files are included for all geographic areas to provide symbolized maps of the datasets. From each Map Document a Published Map File (.pmf) has been created and included for use in ArcReader.
