Overview
NC Division of Coastal Management (DCM) data is primarily available as part of the NCCGIA Corporate Geographic Database (see the Libraries CGIA page for details about campus access). Prior to availability via CGIA, the DCM Wetland Type and Potential Wetland Enhancement & Restoration Sites were acquired as county tiles in State Plane 1927/feet (the CGIA versions are tiled by river basin and are in State Plane 1983/meters). The DCM Coastal Marinas and Beach Access Sites data is also available as part of the CGIA data collection. Interactive web based access to DCM data is also available (see the Interactive Web Mapping section).
Data Descriptions
WETLAND TYPES, COASTAL NORTH CAROLINA
Areas identifying wetland types as determined by the NC Division of Coastal Management. Using National Wetlands Data, detailed soils data and two types of land use and land cover data, DCM identified the location and extent of coastal area wetlands. Modifiers may be applied to any of these categories indicating that they have been drained, cleared of vegetation, or recently cut over. From the DCM Wetlands Data Web site: "Note that these data were meant to be used for planning purposes only. These wetland data are advisory in nature. They are not a substitute for an on-site determination of jurisdictional wetlands." See metadata and wetland type category descriptions.

POTENTIAL WETLAND RESTORATION & ENHANCEMENT SITES, COASTAL NORTH CAROLINA
Areas identified by the NC Division of Coastal Management as an inventory of
potential wetland and riparian area restoration and/or enhancement sites.
These sites have the greatest ecological potential for performing
valuable wetland functions. See metadata and restoration site category descriptions.
