The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, developed the GIS data set, USGS Stream Gaging Stations for North Carolina River Basins. Data collection at these stations monitors streamflow and quality of water.
This data set was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).

The stream gaging station attributes were used as supplied from the USGS and not significantly checked for accuracy.
Using ESRI's ARC/INFO GIS software, the dataset was built for point topology using the "build" command. Topology has not been edited since the last build or clean.
This file represents all USGS stream-gaging stations within the Tar-Pamlico River Basin. This data is considered unverified. This data set was developed with the best resources available at the time of its creation.
Positions of the gaging stations were given in latitude and longitude coordinates by the source agency, and used without edits. Contact the USGS for details on the station sources.
