Local Watersheds (for Wetland Restoration Planning)
The NC Watershed Restoration Program (NCWRP) Planning Group produces two primary products: Watershed Restoration Plans, which identify Targeted Local Watersheds (TLWs) across each of the major river basins; and Local Watershed Plans, which develop comprehensive solutions to local water quality problems within selected local watersheds. [Local Watersheds are synonymous with NRCS 14-digit hydrologic units].
Watershed Restoration Plans are updated on a five-year planning cycle. There are ten Local Watershed Plans currently in progress. These Local Watershed Plans help identify future compensatory mitigation projects within the context of comprehensive local watershed planning.
NCWRP has identified 287 Targeted Local Watersheds within the most recently updated Watershed Restoration Plans for each river basin. In addition, NCWRP has identified 23 TLWs which are the focus of the ten ongoing Local Watershed Planning efforts.
