NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis developed the digital NC Independent Colleges and Universities data from addresses provided by the State Library of North Carolina on 7/08/03. This file enables users to identify independent college and university locations. These data cover the entire extent of North Carolina.
These data were created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).

The attributes were loaded into the GIS from data supplied by the NC State Library. Minimal QC was performed during the digitization process on attributes. The values in the State Library of North Carolina data are reliable.
Using ESRI's ARC/INFO GIS software, the dataset was built for point topology using the "build" command. Topology has not been edited since the last build or clean.
These data represent the locations of independent colleges and universities in North Carolina as provided by the State Library of North Carolina. The locations were either address-matched using ArcView geocoding or matched manually using the best available techniques. These data do not contain all the independent colleges and universities in North Carolina.
