Description:
Abstract:
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Commission and the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis developed the GIS data set, WRC Game Lands, to enhance management and planning, citing and impact analysis in areas directly affecting WRC Game Lands. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission assumed sole responsibility for all updates to the data set after the May 1999 update. The current updates enable the user to identify all publicly-owned Game Lands managed by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission as outlined in the "Hunting and Fishing Maps for North Carolina Game Lands 2003-2004" publication.
Purpose:
This data was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).

      >b.) A missing polygon in the Pisgah National Forest was corrected.
     >1.)nc.gml1990 - The 1990 version is the oldest version in archives.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission originally delineated the Game Lands
onto mylar overlays mapped at 1:100,000 scale. NC CGIA digitized these
areas and attributed them with Game Land name, type, owner, and public or
private status. Attributes were checked by WRC staff. Subsequent updates
and additions were made as previously outlined.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Using ESRI's ARC/INFO GIS software, the dataset was built for arc and
polygon topology using the "build" command. The data set was then cleaned
with a fuzzy tolerance of 1 foot. Topology has not been edited since the
last build or clean.
Completeness_Report:
These data represent all publicly-owned and managed Game Lands, or those
managed cooperatively as Game Lands by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission
and as outlined in the "Hunting and Fishing Maps for North Carolina Game
Lands" publication.

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Game Lands were originally marked on 1:100,000 USGS dlg overlays, which
meet National Map Accuracy Standards, using a best estimate with
reference to surrounding features. Boundaries drawn were digitized
and check plots used to ensure correct boundary location. Subsequent
updates and additions were made as previously outlined.

Process_Description:
The original boundaries of the publicly owned Game Lands in
North Carolina were recompiled from the "Hunting and Fishing
Maps for North Carolina Game Lands, 1989-90" onto USGS
1:100,000-scale topographic maps. The linework was digitized by
NCCGIA then it was checked by light table review. Any necessary
corrections were made and new check plots were run. Post
processing involved edgematching and mapjoining across map borders
to create the final statewide data set.
