Volunteer peer counselors provided information and advice on these and other topics to students on campus. The North Carolina State University chapter of Abraxas, Inc. was founded in 1972 to provide peer counseling, free of charge, to students on campus. Counseling was done both in person and over the phone, and Abraxas also worked to distribute factual literature on these same topics around campus. The chapter remained active until at least 1975.  Historical Note

The North Carolina State University chapter of Abraxas, Inc., was founded in 1972 to provide peer counseling, free of charge, to students on campus. Abraxas staff counseled students on a range of topics, including drug and alcohol use, interpersonal/relationship problems, pregnancy, suicide and depression, study habits, and general sexual matters. Counseling was done both in person and over the phone, and Abraxas also worked to distribute factual literature on these same topics around campus.

NCSU's chapter of Abraxas faced many difficulties while incorporated, including several semesters without staff, frequent reassignment of rooms and office to operate out of, and other general administrative setbacks. No records for Abraxas exist after 1975, indicating the chapter may have disbanded at that time, perhaps as a result of their recurring operating difficulties.
