Biographical Note

Sol Williams (Doc) Newton (1893-1970) played professional baseball with the Baltimore Orioles and coached college football and baseball at Davidson College before becoming head football coach at North Carolina State College from 1932 to 1944.

This collection contains a one-page biography of Sol Williams ("Doc") Newton written by his son, mementos from Newton's induction into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame, correspondence and photocopies of clippings and citations regarding Coach Newton's career in intercollegiate athletics, and several obituary notices.
