<abstract encodinganalog="520">This collection is made up of correspondence, professional adminstrative papers, instructional materials, technical reprints, and research reports belonging to North Carolina State University emeritus professor Charles William Stuber, who conducted research in the use of molecular markers that aid in the identification and mapping of corn genes.

<abstract encodinganalog="545">Nebraska native Charles William Stuber earned a B.S. in 1952 and an M.S. in 1961 at the University of Nebraska. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Experimental Statistics from North Carolina State University in 1965 and was a member of the genetics faculty at North Carolina State University from 1965 to 1998. Stuber conducted research in the use of molecular markers that aid in the identification and mapping of corn genes.

<p>Nebraska native Charles William Stuber earned a B.S. in 1952 and an M.S. in 1961 at the University of Nebraska. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Experimental Statistics from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1965. He was a member of the genetics faculty at North Carolina State University from 1965 to 1998. </p> 

<p>Stuber served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956, operating a grain farm near Shelton, Nebraska, where he taught agriculture to veterans. He began his career with the Agricultural Research Service at North Carolina State College in 1962 as a research geneticist. </p>

<p>In addition to his work with North Carolina State University, Stuber served as Technical Advisor for Corn, Southern Region, USDA-ARS, 1973-1981, and as Supervisory Research Geneticist and Research Leader, Plant Science Research Group, USDA-ARS, Raleigh, North Carolina, from 1975 to 1998. He has been a leader in the establishment of the Center for Plant Breeding and Applied Plant Genomics at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University, and has continued to serve on the faculty as an emeritus professor of genetics since his retirement in 1998.
