The Walter Clyburn Taylor Papers consists of a number of papers relating to textiles and their manufacture. Previously bound in a two-ring notebook, these papers represent Taylor’s work for both his sophomore course on carding and spinning in and for courses taken during his junior year at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. Included are handwritten and typewritten essays on a variety of subjects, including, but not limited to, “Cotton-Carding and Spinning-Early History,” “Present Cotton Growing Areas,” “The Cotton Fibre,” “Carding,” “The Revolving Flat Card,” “Stripping,” “Grinding,” “Card Calculations,” “The Railway Head,” and “Drawing Frames.” Also present are tables of mechanical settings and several technical drawings for machinery, as well as articles clipped from technical journals. Nearly all of these articles are from the technical journal , and most are part of a series of articles entitled “Cotton Mill Machinery Calculations” written by B. M. Parker. All the materials in the notebook date from between 1911 and 1912.
