<abstract encodinganalog="520">The collection consists of two notebooks of fabric analyses compiled by Thomas Roy Hart while a student at the Textiles School in 1912-1913. Fabric and thread samples are included.</abstract>			
<abstract encodinganalog="545">Thomas Roy Hart (1890-1956) obtained bachelor's degrees in Engineering and Textiles Engineering from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. He joined the faculty at North Carolina State College in 1919. He went on to become the Head of the Department of Weaving and Designing, and Director of Instruction.</abstract>

			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<bioghist>
				<p>Thomas Roy Hart was born in Monroe, North Carolina on April 29th, 1890. He graduated from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts with a bachelor's degree in Engineering in 1913. He worked for various cotton mills in Monroe and Burlington, North Carolina, as well as in Illinois and Massachusetts. During a fourteen month military service overseas, Hart attended American Expeditionary Forces University in Beaune, France. He returned to North Carolina to obtain a Textiles Engineering degree in 1920, and a Master of Science in Textile Manufacturing in 1924. He joined the faculty at North Carolina State College in 1919 and eventually became of Head of the Department of Weaving and Designing. In 1948 he became the Director of Instruction and held this position until his death on January 11th, 1956. Hart was noted for his large number of publications, including a history of the School of Textiles, <emph render="italic">The School of Textiles, N. C. State College: Its Past and Present</emph> published in 1951, <emph render="italic">Cloth Calculations</emph>, which Hart co-authored with former Textiles Dean Thomas Nelson, and numerous scholarly journal articles.</p>

<scopecontent><p>Volumes contain analyses, weaving patterns on graph paper, and cloth samples of approximately 43 types of fabric. Analysis information includes: <subject>cloth sample</subject>, <subject>weaving</subject> patterns, <subject>warp</subject> and <subject>filling</subject> measurements, <subject>thread</subject> and <subject>thread counts</subject>, color, weight, <subject>shrinkage</subject>, and some cost estimates. Volume 2 contains a detailed description of the methods used by Hart to compile the data included in his notebooks. Folder includes one separate page of notes.</p>
