Edward Wolfe Ruggles (1900-1982) graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1922. Biographical Note

Edward Wolfe Ruggles (1900-1982) graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1922. He was a member of the Electrical Engineering faculty, 1926-1928. Ruggles became Assistant Director of the College's Extension Division in 1928 and Director in 1934. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1965.

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains two scrapbooks and four folders of material. A scrapbook compiled during Ruggles' student days at North Carolina State includes signatures; North Carolina State memorabilia (primarily news clippings) pertaining to academics (primarily Electrical Engineering), athletics (including school cheers), entertainment, community, and social events; scholarship information; personal notes; postcards, cards, and envelopes; Camp Knox R.O.T.C. book, 1921 (19th Co. 20, Co. G 1919-1920); Raleigh High school memorabilia; photographs including N.C. State vs. Guilford, campus scenes, Coach Fetzer, Gus Ripple, and Homewood; "The Sandman" - Southern Pines High School; infantry scorebook, 1921; and large charcoal drawings. A folder of loose items contains the Sandhill Farm Life School Constitution and a World War I photograph, 1918-1922.

The scrapbook compiled during part of the period when Ruggles was Director of Extension at North Carolina State contains news clippings regarding the extension program and short courses; and photographs. Also included is correspondence, 1927-1928, regarding Ruggles' thesis and other materials relating to his Master's degree and thesis.
