Materials range in date from 1970 to 1987. Historical NoteNorth Carolina State University's Club Football team was organized in 1970 to allow students to play football in a structured setting outside of the varsity athletic environment. Membership in Club Football was open to any male undergraduate students who were interested in joining the club. In the 1980s, funding for the Club Football team was diminished, and members began surveying other university club teams to determine if they were recieving fair treatment from NC State or not. Ultimately, the Club Football team was denied recognition as a valid university student organization as of 1987, for the cited reasons that there were other organized football programs on campus, including the varsity team and intramurals. NC State's underlying reasons for dissolving the team were injury liability and the amount of funding required to support the team. As of 2008, a Club Football team has not been reinstated.
