The Circle K International organization grew out of a fraternity that had been established in the state of Washington in 1936; in 1947, changes were implemented to transform the group from a fraternity into a service organization. Circle K organizations are collegiate affiliates of local Kiwanis groups; the Kiwanis ultimately oversee the activities of the Circle K club they are affiliated with. Circle K was established at NC State in November of 1961, and it is sponsored by both the Capital City Kiwanis and the Raleigh Kiwanis Club. NC State's Circle K club is a member of the Carolinas District of Circle K organizations. The purpose of the club is to provide service and leadership both on campus and in the community. Circle K remained active at NC State as of 2008.
The records of the Circle K Club of North Carolina State University contain information on the club, the district the club is in, and the international offices of the Circle K organization. Types of materials include meeting minutes, constitutions and by-laws, financial information, newsletters and other publications, information about activities and events, and other general information. Materials range in date from 1959 to 1979.
Materials are arranged in three series. The first series, North Carolina State University Club, contains the records of Circle K at NC State. The second series, Carolinas District, contains the records of the district NC State's club is in. The thrid series, Circle K International, contains materials from the organization overseeing all Circle K clubs, including NC State's. Materials are arranged alphabetically within each series.
