Historical Note

The Alpha Phi Omega (APO) National Service Fraternity was established in 1925 at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, based on the ideas of service and tolerance laid out in Scouting Codes. The first members of the fraternity all had a Scouting background, and several had attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Those ideals have served as the direction for the fraternity, and it has developed into a national, co-ed organization whose purpose is to "prepare campus and community leaders through service."

NC State's chapter (the Iota Lambda Chapter) was established in November of 1950, still remaining active as of 2008. The Iota Lambda Chapter has worked to carry out the service mission of the national APO, with members adhereing to the values presented in the Boy Scout Oath and Law.
