Abstract:

Correspondence, minutes, reports, publicity, scrapbooks, newsletters, and registration forms of North Carolina State University campus organizations, including student government, fraternities, and sororities. Material dates begin in 1889 and go through 2008. Records for some organizations have been removed, organized into subgroups, and described separately. The subgroups for individual organizations are listed in the Detailed Description of the Collection. The remaining unprocessed records are listed after these subgroups.

    7 linear feet, 14 archival boxes

    Materials include forms, brochures, clippings, awards, programs, meeting minutes, publications, and correspondence from various North Carolina State University campus organizations. These records highlight numerous student, faculty, and staff interests and concerns related to campus life, national issues, and world affairs. Notable topics include the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, labor, political activism, spirituality, and popular culture. Character and professional development organizations, social and service fraternities and sororities, honorary societies, religious, ethnic, and international clubs, arts, media, and social action organizations, governing and representative councils, and special interest organizations are all represented.

    The records of the North Carolina State University chapter of Abraxas, Inc. inclue meeting minutes, personnel and financial information, other administrative records, and topical files of pamphlets on issues including drug and alchohol use, pregnancy, suicide and depression, study habits, and general sexual matters. Volunteer peer counselors provided information and advice on these and other topics to students on campus.

    Records of the North Carolina State University Agri-Life Council include meeting minutes, financial information, membership rosters, information on activities, and publications created by the Council. The Council was created to form a collective organization to represent students from all disiciplines within the College of Agriculture (later, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences), and acts as the unofficial student organization of the College.

The purpose of the Association is to protect the right of professors to practice academic freedom, and to advance equality for all professors within academic environments, especially women.

The mission of the ASCE is to advance professional knowledge and improve the practice of civil engineering.

    The records of the North Carolina State University Silver Wings (Angel Flight) chapter contain four scrapbooks and one folder of miscellaneous photographs. Scrapbooks include photos, correspondence and cards, fliers, pamphlets, and miscellaneous ephemera, mostly documenting the social activities of Angel Flight members. Angel Flight members worked in conjunction with the Air Force R.O.T.C. program to encourage male students to volunteer for military service.

    The records of the North Carolina State University Student Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) include records from both NC State's section, and from the regional unit (Region IV) that NC State's section was formerly housed under. Types of materials include correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, membership rosters, conference materials, and other general information.

    The Association for the Concerns of African American Graduate Students Records includes correspondence and information about the organization, copies of the VOICE newletter, materials from the 1991 National Black Graduate Student Association Conference, and annual awards banquet booklets.

    3.5 linear feet, 4 archival boxes, 2 oversized flat boxes

    The collection contains the constitution, minutes, correspondence, work plans, directories, and publications of the Graduate Dames, a chapter of the National Association of University Dames, at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University). Yearbooks published by the national association are included. These contain annual reports from the Raleigh chapter beginning in 1951.

The Association of Retired Faculty consists of retired faculty and EPA professional staff from NCSU.

    The records document the activities of the YMCA at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) from 1938 to 1986. They include correspondence from the North Carolina State College YMCA Board of Directors, constitution of the North Carolina State College YMCA, certificate of incorporation, budget reports, annual appropriation reports, memorandum, minutes of committee meetings, schedules of the monthly payroll, newsletters, programs, agendas, and architectural agreements that document the construction of the West Campus Branch of the Y.

    The Society for Afro-American Culture Records include information about the organization's leadership, activities, and concerns in the form of administrative records, newsletters, newspaper clippings, national newspapers, correspondence, and event advertisements. The materials address a range of topics related directly to North Carolina State University, including wages paid to non-academic university employees, the Black Orientation program, discrimination on campus, the organization's struggle to procure adequate space for black student organizations, and Pan-African week. The materials also pertain to the National Strike, Black Panthers and court cases, and other concerns of the larger African American community.
