As a researcher, his projects and correspondence reflect his interest in the practical side of engineering. Topics include tire mechanics, metal forming mechanics, shock and vibration, robotics, stress management, and fiber mechanics research. From Zorowski's years as department head, materials include administrative board minutes, curriculum committee reports and building renovation plans. From his work as a professional consultant, materials include correspondence and photographs of cases of mechanical engineering defects. Other materials relate to his time as the Director of the Integrated Systems Engineering Institute and the Southeastern and College Coalition for Engineering. Carl F. Zorowski was born on July 14, 1930 and received a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952. In 1953, he received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and in 1956 a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering degree from the Carnegie Institute of Technology. Dr. Zorowski began teaching as an Associate Professor at North Carolina State University's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department in 1962. Other positions held at the university consisted of Associate Department Head, Department Head, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. He also participated in the Southeastern University and College Coalition for Engineering Education. In addition, he served as a consultant for business organizations and professionally testified at court hearings involving machinery failures.

Dana May Latch received her B.A. at Harpur College, State University of New York (SUNY) in 1965, her M.A. in Mathematics at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY) in 1967, and her Ph.D. in Mathematics at City University of New York (CUNY), Graduate School in 1971. Latch served as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Rutgers University, Lawrence University and North Carolina State University. Her professional career also included positions as Professor of Computer Science and Program Director in Theoretical Computer Science. Most of these materials document King's research on the history of the American hotel and motel industry. This includes hotel/motel directories from the 1960s and 1970s and reel-to-reel audiotapes of King's interviews (1960s) with industry leaders. There are also files from King's service on North Carolina State University's Committee on Institutional History and Commemoration (1980s-1990s). There are a few personal files in this collection. King's research on Mary Yarbrough and the naming of Mary Yarbrough Court on the NC State University campus exist in the Mary Yarbrough Papers. Doris Elizabeth King (1925-2015) was a longtime professor of history at North Carolina State University. Born in Cairo, Georgia, she graduated (1945) as valedictorian of Georgia State Women's College at Valdosta. She later attended
Duke University, where she earned M.A. (1947) and Ph.D. (1952) in history, and she was one of the first women awarded a scholarship for Ph.D. studies at Duke. She taught at Campbell College, Stephen F. Austin State College, and Wesleyan College from 1951 to 1962. She was the official historian of the American Hotel and Motel Association from 1962 to 1966. She joined the NC State University faculty in 1966 and remained until retirement in 1991. Her research focused on the history of the American hotel and motel industry. King was a friend of Mary Yarbrough,
one of the first women to earn a degree from NC State, and she played an instrumental role in the naming of Mary Yarbrough Court on the university's campus.

MoreThis collection contains black-and-white photographic prints depicting the North Carolina State College (later University) School (later College) of Textiles. Represented in the photographs are faculty, students, and equipment, as well as lab facilities in Nelson Hall and David Clark Labs. Most images are undated, but all appear to have been created during the 1950s and early 1960s. Likewise, there is little information on the photographers, but all appear to have been created by photographers employed or contracted by the college. Floyd probably collected these images when he was employed at the college. During the 1950s and 1960s, Gene G. Floyd was a lab technician at the School of Textiles (later College of Textiles) at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University).

Her writings relate statistics to various subjects, including education, agriculture, nutrition, experimental design, biometrics, horticulture, home economics, and international research. Gertrude Mary Cox (1900-1978) served as head of the Statistics Department at North Carolina State College from 1940 to 1949. She played an important role in founding the Research Triangle Institute in 1959 and held the position of Director, Statistics Research Division at the Institute from 1959 until 1964. In 1949 Cox became the first woman elected into the International Statistical Institute. In 1956 she was elected President of the American Statistical Association while in 1975 she was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

Included are professional and personal correspondence; research proposals; notes, reports, drafts of articles, speeches, and conference papers; university committee files; photographs and newspaper clippings; a scrapbook and several historical accounts of the North Carolina State University Department of Chemical Engineering; poetry; and other documents. Kenneth Orion Beatty was a professor of chemical engineering, 1946-1978, at North Carolina State University. His research interests included heat and mass transfer field, and in the 1960s and 1970s, he was a major participant in the International Heat Transfer Conferences. He also worked on languages for the blind and braille accessibility and functionality. After retirement, he was known as an expert witness in slip-and-fall and arson cases.

The North Carolina State University Committee for the Handicapped was created in 1980 at North Carolina State University to address the activities that would enable the university to be in compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The committee's duties were to make recommendations regarding development and implementation of policies and procedures in the area of services to handicapped students, and to support and advise the office of Handicapped Student Services and other university offices in regard to their responsibilities and services to handicapped students.

Materials range in dates from 1987 to 2001. The North Carolina State University Commission on Undergraduate Education was established on November 20, 1985 under the leadership of Provost Nash Winstead. The Commission members were faculty and staff members of North Carolina State University. The Commission on Undergraduate Education was later renamed the Council on Undergraduate Education. The committee's responsibilities were to identify competencies and common understanding and knowledge that were required in all undergraduate degree programs. They were also required to inventory various means of satisfying outcomes and to recommend procedures for the University Courses and Curricula Committee to evaluate. The Council on Undergraduate Education remains active as of 2012.

MoreThe Harrelson Fund Committee Records contains minutes, correspondence, financial information, and annual reports documenting the activities of the Harrelson Fund Committee. There are also a large amount of documents related to the Harrelson Lectures, many of which document the planning and scheduling of lectures. Also included are texts of many of the lectures and faculty nominations for lecturers as well as promotional material such as flyers, posters, and brochures. The Harrelson Fund Committee was established at North Carolina State College in 1961 to manage the funds of former Chancellor John W. Harrelson's endowment. Since the Committee's founding, they have aspired to use the funds in accordance with the priorities established in Harrelson's will: "lectures (first claim); books; works of art; appropriate markers for buildings named for persons." Accordingly, one of the most important functions of the Harrelson Committee has been to organize the annual Harrelson Lectures, where a well-known public or academic figure gives a series of talks at NC State University. During the 2018-2019 academic year, the Harrelson Fund Committee transitioned into the University Standing Committee on Speakers and Lectures.

Materials range in dates from 1990 to 1991. The North Carolina State University Mission Review Committee was established in 1990 under the leadership of Chancellor Larry K. Monteith. The University of North Carolina Board of Governors, which has the statutory authority to establish the mission of the University of North Carolina constituent institutions, asked each campus to review its mission and to propose revisions as necessary. The Mission Review Committee consisted of faculty, staff, students, faculty senate members and North Carolina State University Board of Trustees. This committee appears to have been dissolved sometime after 1991.

The committee consisted of North Carolina State University faculty and staff, Raleigh city leaders and restaurant owners on Hillsborough Street. The issues discussed were long-range University land use and acquisition plans, parking and traffic concerns of the campus, neighborhood, and businesses. The committee also discussed the appropriate mix of housing to maintain residential communities and to meet needs of University students, staff and faculty.

Also included are materials on the selection of outstanding teachers and Watauga Medal recepients, retention of African American students, Founders Day events, and other administrative functions of the Faculty Senate. The first Faculty Council meetings were held in 1923, and the Council remained in place as an ad hoc advisory board to the then College President. At one point in time this faculty group may have also been called the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty. In 1954, the Faculty Senate was organized to replace the old Faculty Council.

MoreThe General Faculty Meeting Records are primarily comprised of the minutes from meetings held by the President, later Chancellor, and faculty at North Carolina State University. The minutes cover all aspects of running the university, and include discussions of the curriculum, organization of the academic calendar, finances, requirements for admittance and withdrawal, scheduling for the school year, and issues between students and professors, among many other topics. Also included in the collection are general faculty bylaws and a small amount of correspondence and resolutions. Materials date from 1889 to 1980. Alexander Holladay, J.R. Chamberlain, W.F. Massey, W.A. Withers, D.H. Hill Jr., and J.H. Kinealy comprised the entire administration of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts when the faculty met for the first time on Oct. 13, 1889. Alexander Quarles Holladay was the first chief executive of the (then) college. In 1889, Holladay applied to the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts for the position of professor of English, but the Board of Trustees appointed him as the first college president instead. President Holladay and the faculty met regularly to discuss all matters of running the college, including any issues with the student body, which was only 50 students at the time. Holladay served the institution until failing health forced his retirement in 1899. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1909.
