Also included are plans of work and annual statements of objectives and goals for the coming year for many of the same programs. Although extension and demonstration work in North Carolina had been active since the early years of the twentieth century, the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service was only officially created in 1914 as a result of the Smith-Lever Act. In 1991 the name was changed to the current one, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
