MoreThe Dean Wallace Colvard papers consists of 33 pages of abstracts from Colvard's diary relating to the selection of North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) Chancellor Carey Hoyt Bostian in 1952 and Chancellor John Tyler Caldwell in 1959. Also included are 28 pages of records and Colvard's comments concerning the history of the test farm in Swannanoa, N.C., and the Mountain Branch Agricultural Research Station in Waynesville, N.C. Ashe County, N.C., native Dean Wallace Colvard (1913 - ) received a bachelor's degree from Berea College (Ky.) in 1935, a master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1938, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1950. He was an instructor and farm manager at Brevard College (N.C.) from 1935 to 1937 and the general manager and coordinator of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Mountain Experiment Stations from 1938 to 1946. He joined the North Carolina State College faculty as the head of the dairy husbandry section in 1947, and became the dean of agriculture in 1948. He remined in this position until 1960, when he left N.C. State to become the president of the University of Mississippi. He became the first chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1967. After his retirement in 1978, Colvard helped develop the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. He is the author of Mixed Emotions (1985) and coauthor of Knowledge is Power (1987) and University Research Park (1988).

MoreThe John Fletcher Miller Papers contains materials related to Miller's involvement with athletics, intramural sports, and the Department of Physical Education at North Carolina State University. The collection contains a biographical essay, a certificate, correspondence, news and yearbook clippings, and photographs. The items date from 1924 to 1972. John Fletcher Miller was an athlete who played one season with the Saint Louis Browns (1912). He served as a coach at the University of Missouri, 1916-1921, and Albion College in Michigan, 1921-1924, before becoming the Head of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics at North Carolina State College in 1924. He served as the head of the Physical Education Department and the Director of Intramural Sports from 1924 to 1956. He was also the University's Director of Athletics and the President of the North Carolina Physical Education Association. The Miller Fields on the N.C. State campus are named for him.

MoreThis collection contains coursework of John H. (Hinton) Parker while he was a student at North Carolina State College (later university) in the early 1940s. Includes are exercise and workbooks, mostly for agricultural economics courses. Of note is an eleven page report Parker wrote after a farm management tour in northeastern North Carolina in May 1941, in which he briefly described farms visited in Nash, Edgecomb, Greene, Beaufort, Washington, Tyrrell, and Martin counties. The tour included Farm Security Administration settlements. John Hinton Parker was a student at North Carolina State College (later NC State University) in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He received a B.S. in Agricultural Education in 1942. He was later owner of the Parker Seed Company of Dunn, North Carolina.

Included are the jacket and caps of his cadet uniform; photographs showing student life, athletics, and campus buildings; student publications; and one of his engineering textbooks. A few of the photos show Miller's future wife Ella Duckett and his college roommate William Joel Patton. Some of the student publications and the textbook contain his marginalia (the textbook contains a note about Professor Carl Riddick). The collection also contains some college publications from the 1930s when other Miller family members attended NC State, and this includes athletics programs. Joseph Alfred Miller (1883-1949) of Brevard, North Carolina, graduated from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (abbreviated A & M and later renamed North Carolina State University) in 1904. He was later a camp director and assistant county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration.

Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough (1904-1984) was one of the first women to receive a graduate degree (M.S. in chemistry, 1927) from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University). Mary Yarbrough served on the faculty of Meredith College for many years (1929-1972). In 1941 she received a Ph.D. and Phi Beta Kappa key at Duke University. At Meredith College she headed the chemistry and physics department, and she became an assistant director of the cooperative education program.

The Transition Program at North Carolina State University began in 1973 as a way to assimilate freshmen to college life at a large university. The program annually offered about fifty students educational and social opportunities within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Some of these benefits included living in the same residence halls, attending the same approved courses, meeting with guests outside the University such as news editors, musicians, and judges, and having access to a Preceptor, a faculty member who lived in one of the residence halls with the Transition students.

This includes newsletters, magazines, bulletins, handbooks, course catalogs, and other publications related to dining, housing, admissions, registration, financial aid, religious affairs, multicultural affairs, the arts at North Carolina State University, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, student health services, and international student affairs. Red and White. The materials are dated 1889 to 2021. Working under their longstanding motto of "Students First," the North Carolina State University Division of Student Affairs works to provide "programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity." In this pursuit, the member groups and programs of the Division of Student Affairs, including student media organizations, have produced a number of internal and external publications. MoreThe records of the North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center contain forms completed by student organizations to register their organizations with the university, as well as constitutions, bylaws, correspondence, office records, and other administrative information about the organizations. Materials range in date from 1942 to 2009. The North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center, now known as the James H. Woodward Student Involvement Center, exists to meet the needs of students who are interested in involvement on campus through organized groups. As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, one of the Student Involvement Center's main responsibilities is to advise students who start or participate in registered student organizations. As of 2017, there are more than 700 registered student organizations at NC State, including Student Government and the Union Activities Board. The Center is located in the Talley Student Union Center.
