Abstract: The Joab L. Thomas speech and letter of commendation includes a copy of A Resolution of Commendation for Chancellor Joab L. Thomas, passed unanimously by the Student Senate (1981 April 15). There is also a transcription from a tape of Thomas' remarks to deans, directors, and department heads at the time of his resignation as chancellor and the announcement of his appointment as president of the University of Alabama (1981 March 25).

The collection includes memos, letters, meeting minutes and agendas, handwritten notes, supplemental information, pamphlets and other miscellaneous materials including a list from 1968 of stolen and missing materials.

Abstract: The David Alexander Lockmiller papers consists of newsclippings and correspondence relating to Lockmiller's History of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering of the University of North Carolina, 1889-1939, and the University's 50th and 60th anniversary commemorations. Also included is a copy of R. C. Lawrence's review of Lockmiller's book, as well as a copy of the 1959 Founder's Day address. The majority of the materials are from 1939.

These records have not yet recieved full archival processing.

Abstract: The Roy Edwin Smith calendar and photographs contains a 1920 calendar containing pictures of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (now North Carolina State University) campus. Also included are eleven photographs of the campus, including scenes of the 1911 dormitory, Holladay Hall, the textile tower, Leazar Hall, Lover's Lane, and intermission activities at a football game against Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Abstract: This collection chiefly documents Ralph Clay Swann's work as Technical Director at the Redstone Arsenal Ordnance Missile Laboratories in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was responsible for the planning and execution of rocket propulsion research and solid propulsion development. Contained in the files are news clippings, photographs, certificates, citations, lectures and speeches given by Swann. A few items relate to Swann's education, to his work in private industry, or to his work at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University).
