Abstract: The Sanford R. Winston Collection primarily contains documents from the 1930s and 1940s, when Winston was head of the Department of Sociology at North Carolina State College. The collection includes correspondence, speeches, and writings related to Winston's interests in rural sociology, African-American issues, and leadership. Materials about his career activities and the organizations to which he belonged are included in the collection, as well as planning documents and descriptions of the S.R. Winston Music Collection, which was established following Winston's death.

Abstract: The Selz C. Mayo Papers primarily contains documents from the 1940s and 1950s, when Mayo was a professor in the small but growing Department of Rural Sociology at North Carolina State College. Much of the collection consists of correspondence with fellow professors and researchers, organizations related to his research interests, and students and others whom Mayo assisted. Along with a limited amount of Mayo's writings and research, the collection contains records of his membership in professional organizations, including the North Carolina Rural Chuch Institute.

Abstract: The James Wyche Green Papers contain correspondence, research, reports, teaching materials, and other information relating to Green's five years of teaching in the Department of Rural Sociology at North Carolina State College. Included in the collection are research materials about farm life and population, two of Green's interests. Of special note in this collection are handwritten and typed student papers and book reports, as well as student autobiographies from 1949.

Abstract: The Charles Horace Hamilton Papers documents his career as professor and chair of the Department of Rural Sociology at North Carolina State College. The collection describes Hamilton's research, writings, university career, and participation in professional organizations. His main interests were higher education, population and migration, rural families, rural health care and standards of living, and statistics. This collection also contains a manuscript by the Federal Writers Project titled "Gamblers All," detailing the history of tobacco and tobacco workers in North Carolina. It is believed that this manuscript is unpublished.
