Abstract: This collection contains approximately 400 oversize photographs (chiefly 8 x 10 inches and larger) from the University Archives Photograph Collection. The images depict various aspects of the history of North Carolina State University, including farm animals, agricultural extension work, athletics teams and team members, campus facilities, Greek letter societies, faculty, and students and student life. Also included in this collection are two boxes of unprocessed material.

Abstract: Includes photocopies of special orders no. 79 and 106 issued to soldiers ordering them to report for duty, two photographs of the soldiers, and a microcassette recording, 1994, 1993. Philip Sine served in World War II. He reported for duty to the Commanding Officer, SCU 3421, ASTP at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Title:   Bruce Winkworth Photographs, 1944

Abstract: This collection contains twelve black-and-white snapshot photographs of the North Carolina State University campus. Included are pictures of athletic fields, the power plant, Reynolds Coliseum (under construction), Alexander Hall, and the Bell Tower. Some show military maneuvers and athletic events or practice. There is one picture of buildings in Pullen Park, Raleigh, North Carolina. All photos date from 1944.

Abstract: Black-and-white and color photographic prints, negatives, contact prints and sheets, printing plates, and reprographic copies of images picturing individuals and small groups of people who have contributed to the history of North Carolina State University. Pictures of administrators, faculty, staff, students, and notable visitors and alumni are included, as well as class pictures. Most of the materials were created to portray a specific individual or small group of people: many are posed and have subject identification on the reverse. The materials date from the 1890s to the late 20th century.

Abstract: The bulk of this records subgroup consists of black-and-white photographic prints that document the history of North Carolina State University’s physical campus and facilities from 1889 to the 1990s, but it also contains related color prints, negatives, contact prints, and contact sheets. The images show interior and exterior views of buildings, outdoor facilities and constructed items, general campus views, views of the surrounding area, and aerial photographs. In addition, the photographs in this subgroup illustrate people, events, and activities related to the facilities and areas of campus they picture. This includes construction, renovations, beautification projects, groundbreakings, and dedication ceremonies. Some images demonstrate damage to or destruction of buildings, architectural and decorative details, and the moving of departments or items from one building to another. This subgroup also contains photographic copies of three-dimensional architectural models, architectural plans, artists renderings, sketches, floor plans, and maps

Title:   Max Desfor Papers, 1940-2008

Abstract: This collection contains photographs taken by Max Desfor while employed with the Associated Press from 1940 to 1968. Included are three large scrapbooks and photo albums, 1940-1950; and photographs and newspaper articles, 1946-1970. Also included are personal correspondence, business correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and other files, 1951-2008. There are three laminated newspaper pages and memorabilia from Desfor's Pulitzer Prize-winning war photo, "Flight of Refugees Across Wrecked Bridge in Korea," taken in 1950, of Korean refugees fleeing along the twisted girders of a bombed bridge. Also included in this collection are videocassettes and cds ranging in dates from 1951 to 2008 as well as carousels of slides from 1969 and 1972.

Abstract: Seven loom catalogs, 1932 - 1949, and a volume of labelled photographs of sections of looms, from the Draper Corporation for the Textile School at North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University), Raleigh, N.C. The catalogs each contain a copy of a loom order, followed by a detailed list of parts and labelled photographs of portions of the looms. The orders are dated 1937 Jan. 15 - 1949 Oct. 31.

Abstract: The Roy Edwin Smith calendar and photographs contains a 1920 calendar containing pictures of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (now North Carolina State University) campus. Also included are eleven photographs of the campus, including scenes of the 1911 dormitory, Holladay Hall, the textile tower, Leazar Hall, Lover's Lane, and intermission activities at a football game against Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Abstract: Letter written to Mildred Midge Teague by her mother and a photograph of two unidentified women in nurses' uniforms. In the letter, postmarked from Boomer (Wilkes County), North Carolina, Mrs. Teague described events happening at home, and asked Midge to write back when she had the chance. Mrs. Teague sent the letter to Presbyterian Hospital, located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Abstract: Charles Whitaker was a student at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in the mid-1890s. The Charles Whitaker Papers consists of a letter, a booklet, and two photographs related to Whitaker's time as a student at the College. The 1895 letter is from North Carolina College President Alexander Holladay, encouraging Whitaker to keep up his studying even while away from school.

Abstract: The William S. Smith photographs and newsclippings primarily contains items from when Smith was a student at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (now North Carolina State University) from 1927 to 1931. Forty-two black-and-white photographs depict student life, including snowball fights, views of campus buildings, and the Electrical Engineering Department's float and exhibit for the Engineer's Fair. Also included are partial issues of the Wataugan from 1929 February and 1931 January, newsclippings, and a program from the 1930 Electric Show. In addition, there are several photocopies of photographs showing Smith and colleagues during naval officer training in 1943 and 1945.
