research and experiment stations. Also included are materials on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Fiftieth
Anniversary of the research stations, the Tennessee Valley Authority, agricultural products, the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools, individual college departments and their role in experiment station research, and the National Pickle Packers
Association. Records include a letter book of the director. Materials range in date from 1878 to 2002.

Fletcher, North Carolina; and nine boxes of grant files, 1957-1968, which contain correspondence, reports, financial records,
applications, and proposals, including National Science Foundation grants 1957-1967 and National Institutes of Health grants
1957-1966.

| Abstract: |
This collection is chiefly made up of materials collected by James R. Troyer in preparation for the composition of a biographical
article on Wilbur Fisk Massey. Massey had a varied career, working as a horticulturist, professor, and an agricultural journalist.
He taught at a wide variety of universities and schools. He spent 1889-1901 teaching at North Carolina College of Agriculture
and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University), while also holding the position of horticulturist of the North
Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. Massey left North Carolina to explore agricultural journalism, acting as editor
for the
Practical Farmer and going on to hold positions at several other publications. The personal material includes information
of a biographical nature, including Troyer's article on Massey. The professional series primarily focuses on Massey's work
at the North Carolina Experiment Station, but also includes information on his teaching experience at North Carolina State
College and his work in agricultural journalism. The photographs series includes portraits of Massey from about 1880.

for the Control of Nutsedge, Johnson Grass and Woody Plants, as well as class notes, 1941-1949, from Upchurch's years as a
student in crop science and plant physiology. Robert P. Upchurch's personal military records, 1948-1967, are included in the
collection, as are the
Upchurch Bulletin, 1980-2006, and
Englandia, 1996-1999, family history quarterlies edited and published by Robert Phillip Upchurch. Also included are publications
and other materials of the Plant Growth Regulation Society of America.
