| Abstract: |
The Sanford R. Winston Collection primarily contains documents from the 1930s and 1940s, when Winston was head of the Department
of Sociology at North Carolina State College. The collection includes correspondence, speeches, and writings related to Winston's
interests in rural sociology, African-American issues, and leadership. Materials about his career activities and the organizations
to which he belonged are included in the collection, as well as planning documents and descriptions of the S.R. Winston Music
Collection, which was established following Winston's death.

The records of the Golden Chain Honor Society include their constitution, meeting minutes, member and recepient rosters, correspondence,
financial information, induction banquet programs, yearbooks, and other general information about the society. The Golden
Chain Honor Society was begun after a student wrote an article in the
Technician, proposing the idea of forming an honor society exclusive to NC State which would recognize several seniors who
had excelled academically as students during their time at the university, but who had also demonstrated leadership and service
to the university and in the community.
