and conferences, campus buildings, and promotional materials.

general information about the chapter and its activities. Also contained in this subgroup are records from the Keramos national
office, including member directories, organization history, national constitution, by-laws, and operating procedures, publications,
and materials submitted by other chapters and then re-distributed by the national office. The Keramos National Professional
Ceramic Engineering Fraternity was established in 1902 to promote the interaction between professionals and students in the
field of ceramic engineering.

| Abstract: |
This 35-page report is a handwritten history and evaluation of the De Laval reaction turbine. It includes 11 diagrams, including
rotor [design] and buckets, bucket details, a heat chart showing friction losses, a section of the nozzle, theoretical and
actual velocity diagrams, the design of the bucket, governor details, the reducing gearing, the standard machine, and a chart
showing the results of the tests conducted. While the author of this report is not known, it may have been created by John
William Cox, who received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic
Arts in 1915. Cox also received a master's degree in civil engineering. from the college in 1921.

Material related to city planning in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 1972 to 1974, and class notes, photocopies of legal documents,
city and state council minutes, meeting notes, maps and news clippings related to Eckels' political participation and efforts
to prevent the Oberlin Project and the Pullen Road project from dissecting Pullen Park. Included is a photocopy of a legal
document dated 1887 designating the donation of farm land from the Richard Stanhope Pullen estate to the City of Raleigh for
use as a public park. Also in the collection are notes from the North Carolina State University Department of Electrical Engineering
course, Principles of Electrical Engineering (EE 331) which Arthur Raymond Eckels taught in 1973.

| Abstract: |
The papers in this collection pertain to William Mitchell Cates's undergraduate career at North Carolina State College of
Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University). A variety of coursework is represented, including a report
on the operation of the Panama Canal, graded business letters, handouts on the economics of electric companies and original
problem sets, as well as Cates's work on these problems in the form of computations, charts, graphs, notes, and exams. This
collection also contains materials relating to Cates’s registration and housing, university publications, and other engineering-related
publications. All the materials are handwritten, printed, mimeographs, or blue Photostat copies, and are dated 1927 to 1936.
The bulk of the collection dates from 1929 to 1932.
