Abstract: The bulk of these papers document the corporate activities of the North Carolina Farm Bureau between 1936 and 1996. The North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, North Carolina Farm Bureau Service Company, and North Carolina Farm Bureau Marketing Association are all represented in the documents of this collection. Also, a substantial amount of material testifies to the activities of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Women's Committee. Formats include correspondence, corporate documents, publications, financial ledgers, scrapbooks, photographs, film reels, audio recordings, and miscellaneous artifacts.

Abstract: The Lloyd Hurst Swindell Papers, 1907 - 1945, contain documents relating to Swindell's occupation as a farmer. The majority of materials are journals in which Swindell detailed the daily management of and activities at his farm from 1915 to 1943. A small number of personal materials, including examinations and class notes from courses he completed at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, are also included.

Abstract: The Daniel William Greenlee Journals document the life of a plantation owner in western North Carolina during the Reconstruction era and into the post-Reconstruction era. The journals span January 1st, 1874-March 23rd, 1891 with two gaps in coverage: January 6th, 1881-April 26th 1883 and April 13th 1884-February 15th 1885. His journals comment chiefly on the weather, a variety of farming and business activities, social visits to neighbors and relatives, and his personal and religious thoughts.

The collection also includes news clippings, the bulk of which relate to Goode's work developing Polled Dorset sheep. The bulk of the collection's content consists of family correspondence relating early 20th-century family life in North Carolina and a set of diaries maintained by Jackson that recounts farming and weather observations in North Carolina during the first half of the twentieth century.

Abstract: As a land-grant institution, North Carolina State University has had agricultural study as an integral part of instruction since its beginning in 1887. In 1917, the first dean of agriculture took office, and the School of Agriculture was established in 1923. The name was changed to School of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1964, and finally to College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1987. As of 2009, the College consists of 22 academic and extension departments, and runs the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service, the current name of the former Agricultural Experiment Station. The College continues to strive to meet its three primary functions -- teaching, research, and extension -- as first laid out over a century ago.

Abstract: This collection consists of glass negatives and lantern slides chiefly depicting various aspects of agriculture in North Carolina and buildings on the campus of N.C. State University. Subjects include agricultural extension work, agricultural research, farms and farm life, animal husbandry, botany, horticulture, and crop science. One set of slides shows the university's first nuclear reactor; another comprises song slides that were presumably used at 4-H meetings or camps in the state. Many of the slides are hand-colored. Also included in the collection are photographic prints made from some of the negatives, manuscript material from the original storage containers, and examples of the original storage envelopes.

Abstract: The Ralph Waldo Green papers include materials documenting Green's education at Cornell University, his career as an editor in the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service, his experience as an agricultural-cooperative organizer, his tenure at North Carolina State College, and his avocation of ornithology and conservation. The papers include professional and personal writings by both him and his wife, Charlotte Hilton Green. The collection also contains correspondence, clippings, memorabilia, photographs and a scrapbook.
