Abstract: The Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity Records contain correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, reports, publications, and other material related to the administrative functions of the Affirmative Action Office (later the Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity). The bulk of the material involves efforts by North Carolina State University to comply with federal statutory and regulatory requirements prohibiting discrimination. Also included are records of the Disability Services Office, which became part of the Office for Equal Opportunity in 1999. Most of the Disability Services material, comprising student records, is restricted, and will be deaccessioned according the disposition instructions for GU 323 (Services to Students with Disabilities) of the University of North Carolina (System) General Records Retention and Disposition Schedule.

Abstract: The Society of Afro-American Culture Records include information about the organization’s leadership, activities, and concerns in the form of administrative records, newsletters, newspaper clippings, national newspapers, correspondence, and event advertisements. The materials address a range of topics related directly to North Carolina State University, including wages paid to non-academic university employees, the Black Orientation program, discrimination on campus, the organization’s struggle to procure adequate space for black student organizations, and Pan-African week. The materials also pertain to the National Strike, Black Panthers and court cases, and other concerns of the larger African American community.

Abstract: The Charles Horace Hamilton Papers documents his career as professor and chair of the Department of Rural Sociology at North Carolina State College. The collection describes Hamilton's research, writings, university career, and participation in professional organizations. His main interests were higher education, population and migration, rural families, rural health care and standards of living, and statistics. This collection also contains a manuscript by the Federal Writers Project titled "Gamblers All," detailing the history of tobacco and tobacco workers in North Carolina. It is believed that this manuscript is unpublished.

Abstract: The Sanford R. Winston Collection primarily contains documents from the 1930s and 1940s, when Winston was head of the Department of Sociology at North Carolina State College. The collection includes correspondence, speeches, and writings related to Winston's interests in rural sociology, African-American issues, and leadership. Materials about his career activities and the organizations to which he belonged are included in the collection, as well as planning documents and descriptions of the S.R. Winston Music Collection, which was established following Winston's death.

Abstract: Thirty-two architectural drawings for Kingswood Elementary School in Cary, North Carolina. The earliest item is a plot plan headed "Proposed New Building for Cary Colored Elem. School, Randolph Benton, Supt. of Schools, Wake County Board of Education, Raleigh, N.C." Other plans dated August 1953 include a roof structural plan, a floor plan, front elevation, and details for the primary classroom building. Also included are a plot plan, 1958, for additions to the school; plans, 1959, for a gymtorium; and plans, 1959, for a classroom and cafeteria addition.

Abstract: The Josephine Scott Hudson Papers include research papers, correspondence, journals, photographs, postcards, news clippings, and ephemera. The bulk of the material contained in this collection relates to Cassius Rex Hudson's career with the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service and to the career of W. Kerr Scott, former governor of North Carolina. There is also material relating to Hudson's nephew, former North Carolina Governor Robert W. Scott.

This includes newsletters, magazines, bulletins, handbooks, course catalogs, and other publications related to dining, housing, admissions, registration, financial aid, religious affairs, multicultural affairs, the arts at North Carolina State University, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, student health services, and international student affairs. A significant portion of the material consists of student media publications such as the Agromeck (yearbook), Windhover, and Red and White. The materials are dated 1889 to 2008.
