The Bill Hansley Photographs, 1985-1990, contain 35mm negatives, 35mm slides, contact sheets, and 8x10 work prints related to events and students at North Carolina State University. These events include numerous football and basketball games as well as other sporting events such as gymnastics, fencing, soccer, and track and field. Many of the basketball games include images of Coach Jim Valvano. Other events include the North Carolina State Fair and various campus events for students. Also included are images depicting student life on campus. All photographs were taken for NC State University Student Media publications. The John D. Mattox Papers contain photographic prints, negatives, and contact sheets, and papers depicting the personal and professional life of John D. Mattox. Personal portraits and snapshots document the lives of Mattox, his wife Mary, their son Douglas, and their extended family. Also included are photographs of the town of Wendell, North Carolina, where the Mattox family lived. The collection also includes photographs taken while Mattox served in Europe during World War II. Relating to Mattox’s professional career as a photographer at North Carolina State University, there are many images of campus scenes, student and faculty portraits, and campus publications featuring Mattox’s work. Wedding photographs, miscellaneous portraits, unidentified original and copied tintypes and cartes de visite, as well as rolled 35 mm negatives are also included. While the majority of the collection is composed of photographs, there are some papers such as news clippings, correspondence, business cards, awards, brochures, and grade reports which belonged to Mattox. John Douglas Mattox, Sr. (1911-1987) was a photographer with the Visual Aids Department at North Carolina State University from 1949 to 1974. A native of Wendell, North Carolina, Mattox attended North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in the 1930s and enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving in Europe. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, and had a son John Douglas Mattox, Jr., called Doug. The Joseph Alfred Miller Papers contain items from Miller's student days (1900-1904) at the college that eventually became NC State University. Included are the jacket and caps of his cadet uniform; photographs showing student life, athletics, and campus buildings; student publications; and one of his engineering textbooks. A few of the photos show Miller's future wife Ella Duckett and his college roommate William Joel Patton. Some of the student publications and the textbook contain his marginalia (the textbook contains a note about Professor Carl Riddick). The collection also contains some college publications from the 1930s when other Miller family members attended NC State, and this includes athletics programs. Joseph Alfred Miller (1883-1949) of Brevard, North Carolina, graduated from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (abbreviated A & M and later renamed North Carolina State University) in 1904. This black-and-white photographic print is a group portrait of the Leazar Litarary Society. There are 15 students shown, 7 wearing sashes. The same photograph appears on page 173 of the 1904 Agromeck (college yearbook), where it has the caption "Debaters May Entertainment" and it faces a page with information on the society's May 1903 event. The photographs measures 2.5 x 9 inches, and it is mounted on black mat board that measures 7 x 14 inches. Less

This collection contains 3 JPG images of photographic prints of All Campus concerts at NC State University, probably in 1970 but possibly in 1971. The images show the bands Chicago Transit and Steppenwolf. There is also an email file with a description of the images. Martha Brinson earned her B.A. from NC State University in 1972. The College of Natural Resources photographs include portraits and candid shots of students and faculty in classes, labs, and outdoor settings. Prominent faculty members pictured include Carl Alwin Schenck, Richard J. Preston, and Clarence E. Libby. Photographs of meetings, conferences, events, and awards receptions are included. This collection also contains images of the buildings, laboratories, and equipment associated with the College of Natural Resources. Although the majority of the photographs are undated, these photographs range approximately from the late 1930s to the late 1990s; most are from the 1950s to the 1970s. The majority of these photographs are black and white. In 1929, North Carolina State College formally established the Department of Forestry. In 1931, the Department of Forestry was renamed the Division of Forestry, and in 1950, the Division of Forestry was elevated to School status and renamed the School of Forestry. The School of Forestry became the School of Forest Resources in 1968, and the College of Forest Resources in 1987. Finally, in 2000, the College of Forest Resources assumed its present name, the College of Natural Resources. As of 2010, the College of Natural Resources includes the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, and the Department of Wood and Paper Science. This collection contains approximately 400 oversize photographs (chiefly 8 x 10 inches and larger) from the University Archives Photograph Collection. The images depict various aspects of the history of North Carolina State University, including farm animals, agricultural extension work, athletics teams and team members, campus facilities, Greek letter societies, faculty, and students and student life. Also included in this collection are boxes of unprocessed material. The North Carolina College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts was founded as the state's land-grant institution in 1887, and formally opened its doors two years later. Renamed the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering in 1917, the school became part of the Consolidated University of North Carolina (later the University of North Carolina System) in 1932. The institution was restyled North Carolina State of the University of North Carolina at Raleigh in 1963, and two years later renamed North Carolina State University (officially the North Carolina State University at Raleigh).
