            <abstract id="ref2" label="Abstract">The Dean Wallace Colvard papers consists of 33 pages of abstracts from Colvard's diary relating to the selection of North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) Chancellor Carey Hoyt Bostian in 1952 and Chancellor John Tyler Caldwell in 1959. Also included are 28 pages of records and Colvard's comments concerning the history of the test farm in Swannanoa, N.C., and the Mountain Branch Agricultural Research Station in Waynesville, N.C.</abstract>
            <abstract id="ref3" label="Abstract">Ashe County, N.C., native Dean Wallace Colvard (1913 - ) received a bachelor's degree from Berea College (Ky.) in 1935, a master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1938, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1950. He was an instructor and farm manager at Brevard College (N.C.) from 1935 to 1937 and the general manager and coordinator of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Mountain Experiment Stations from 1938 to 1946. He joined the North Carolina State College faculty as the head of the dairy husbandry section in 1947, and became the dean of agriculture in 1948. He remined in this position until 1960, when he left N.C. State to become the president of the University of Mississippi. He became the first chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1967. After his retirement in 1978, Colvard helped develop the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. He is the author of 
                <title ns2:type="simple" ns2:href="" render="italic">Mixed Emotions</title> (1985) and coauthor of 
                <title ns2:type="simple" ns2:href="" render="italic">Knowledge is Power</title> (1987) and 
                <title ns2:type="simple" ns2:href="" render="italic">University Research Park</title> (1988).</abstract>
