This collection consists of personal writings, correspondence, biographical accounts, news clippings, and scripts from radio show broadcasts. They cover topics of food preparation and home demonstration marketing and development. Papers on McKimmon's awards, retirement, and death are also included.

Jane Simpson McKimmon was born November 13, 1867 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated from the Peace Institute at 16 years old, and spent her time leading home demonstrations and serving as the State Director of the women's divsion of the Farmers Institute. Her outstanding work in educating women in home demonstration techniques eventually lead to her appointment as the State Home Demonstration Agent in 1911. In conjunction with her work, she strongly believed in continuing her education and soon earned B.S. (1926) and M.S. (1929) degrees from North Carolina State University. After her retirement in 1937, McKimmon continued to serve as the Assistant Director of the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service. Her great contributions to home demonstration programs garnered her many awards and also an honorary doctor of law degree from the University of North Carolina.
