Files in this series contain correspondence, concept sketches and drawings, layout drawings, notes, prototypes, photographs, and other materials relating to projects designed by Malecha throughout his career as an architectural drawing contractor for Hugh Stubbins and Associates in Boston, Massachusetts and continuing throughout his career in university roles. Of note are projects including the Total Energy House funded by the General Dynamics Corporation, the Center for Regenerative Studies at Cal Poly, and other architectural projects including university classrooms and galleries, church and parish facilities, correctional facilities, an entertainment amphitheater master plan, and residential projects, including the official residence of a university chancellor. Scope and Content Note

The Marvin J. Malecha Papers collection contains drawings, concept sketches, prototypes, correspondence, speeches, articles and papers, publications, personal notes, meeting minutes and conference notes, presentation materials, photographic materials and other materials ranging in date from 1969-2013 relating to Marvin J. Malecha's career in architecture and design teaching and research and as a distinguished and highly awarded architect and educator.

Biographicall Note

Marvin J. Malecha, dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Design and professor of architecture, has had a multi-faceted career encompassing administration, education, research, professional service, and practice as an architect. Malecha earned a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Minnesota and a master of architecture from Harvard University. At California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, he was chair of the Department of Architecture, 1979-1982, and dean of the College of Environmental Design, 1982-1994. He has been dean of North Carolina State University's College of Design (COD) since 1994. In 1980, he was recognized as the Rotch Traveling Scholar. In 1989-1990 he was president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was elected in 2007 to serve as First Vice-President/President Elect of the AIA in 2008 and President in 2009. In 2003 he received the Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education from the American Institute of Architects and Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
