            <abstract id="ref2" label="Abstract">This collection includes architect and North Carolina State University School of Design professor James Fitzgibbon’s architectural drawings for the Ralph Fadum House of Raleigh, North Carolina and for the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Daniel. The collection includes color spot sketches of the exterior; site plans; working drawings; floor plans; shop drawings and blueprints of the Fadum house. Blueprints of the exterior and elevation of the Daniel's home are included.</abstract>
            <abstract id="ref3" label="Abstract">James Walter Fitzgibbon (1915-1985) helped found the School of Design at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1948. Fitzgibbon was hired as the associate architect for campus planning during the School of Design’s inception. He also served as an architectural professor at North Carolina State College from 1948 to 1953. Fitzgibbon later served as president of Synergetics Inc., an association of Raleigh architects and engineers, before taking a position with the University of Washington. Fitzgibbons returned to the School of Design in 1967, serving for one year.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>James Walter Fitzgibbon (1915-1985) helped found the School of Design at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1948. Fitzgibbon was hired as the associate architect for campus planning during the School of Design's inception. He also served as an architectural professor at North Carolina State College from 1948 to 1953. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Fitzgibbon received his bachelor of architecture in 1938 from the University of Syracuse where he won the Gifford Design Prize. In 1940, Fitzgibbon received his masters of architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. There he won the Warren Prize design competition and was a finalist in the Rome Prize competition. He worked as the associate architect for campus planning at the University of Oklahoma prior to joining Henry Kamphoefner to establish the School of Design. Fitzgibbon later served as president of Synergetics Inc., an association of Raleigh architects and engineers, before taking a position with the University of Washington. Fitzgibbons returned to the School of Design in 1967, serving for one year.</p>
            <p>Ralph Fadum was Dean of Engineering from 1962 to 1978 at North Carolina State University. His home is located at 3056 Granville Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1993 Fadum had the home placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is also known as the Nancy Fields Fadum House.</p>
            <p>The Daniel House is one of Fitzgibbon's most famous designs. The home was designed and built in the late 1940s in Knoxville, TN.</p>

            <p>This collection contains 
                <subject>architect</subject> and North Carolina State College School of Design professor 
                <persname>James Fitzgibbon</persname>’s architectural drawings for the 
                <persname>Ralph Fadum</persname> House of Raleigh, North Carolina and the Robert W. Daniel House of Knoxville, Tennessee. The collection includes color spot sketches of the exterior of the Fadum House, 1949-1950; as well as 
                <subject>architectural drawings</subject> of site plans, including elevation details; working drawings of the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, balcony; floor plans for the main and second floors; and shop drawing of the living room and dining room cabinets, vents and outlets, waterlines, detail of the stairway and fireplace, eave and gutter downspouts, and framing details. Some of these were drawn by Duncan R. Stuart (also of NCSU's School of Design). Also included in this collection are blueprints of the main floor of the Fadum House as well as site and elevation blueprints. The collections contains exterior and elevation blueprints of the Robert Daniel House.</p>
