            <head>Historical Note</head>
            <p>The architectural firm once known as Ballard, McKim and Sawyer, AIA, is known as BMS Architects, PC, as of 2008. The company has been based in Wilmington, North Carolina.</p>
            <p>The firm was founded in 1955 by Herbert McKim, who was later joined by Bob Sawyer and Ballard. It became a leading firm in eastern North Carolina, known for experience in coastal architecture as well as in educational facilities from elementary through post secondary work. Founded originally as a partnership, the firm underwent a transition to a professional corporation in 1988.</p>
