What are they Using... And How? Analysis of Usage Statistics
The Libraries collects use data of electronic products directly from publishers,
aggregators, NC LIVE, and from internal server usage reports. During
the 2000/2001 fiscal year, the Libraries expects to spend over 1.2
million dollars in electronic resources. To make informed purchasing
decisions, collection managers need to know what resources our patrons
are using, and, perhaps more importantly, how the resources are
used. In this project, the Fellow will analyze use data on a product-by-product
basis. The analysis will enable the Fellow to report the usage with
the specific definitions needed to correctly compare different resources.
The Fellow will keep the Libraries informed about use statistics
initiatives being conducted by other leading information organizations.
This information will form the foundation for a comprehensive statistics
policy to use in licensing negotiations with vendors.
