Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I make a conference call from the Presentation Practice Room?

There are three steps to making a conference call in the Presentation Practice Room. (Be sure to reserve the Presentation Practice Room for your call. You can make your reservation up to one week in advance.)

First, you must make a reservation with the campus operator for a Meet-Me Conference. Call the campus operator at 515-2011 and set up the date and time for the conference call. They suggest that you make reservations as far in advance as possible. The operator will give you a number to dial in for the conference call which you can then distribute to up to 29 other individuals (each will be responsible for their own long-distance charges if they are not local to 919).

At the time of the call, you can check out a telephone at the Circulation Desk. To use the phone, plug the gray telephone cord into the wall outlet on the right wall of the PPR (the wall with outside-facing windows). Plug the cord into the top left jack on the outlet.

Third, place your call to the designated number. To use the speaker phone, leave the receiver on the base unit, and press the bottom button on the far right labeled "513-2854." You should now hear a dial tone coming from the speaker. You can now dial the number the operator gave you (5-xxxx). Assuming you are controlling the call, you need to be the first one to dial into it. You'll hear ringing until the next person joins the call.

If you're joining a local conference call that you didn't arrange through the campus operator, dial 7 and then the 7-digit local number.
