Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) |
How can I save my wiki pages as a regular HTML web page?
WolfWikis pages are generated automatically from a database when loaded in your web browser. Unfortunately, the structure of a wiki is such that you can't easily export all your pages in one quick step.
To save your own pages (or any WolfWikis page, for that matter), the best option is to use the "Save As" feature of your web browser to save each page individually. It is not an ideal solution, and unfortunately the links between pages will likely not behave the way you hope.
Here is how to save a page, for a few different browsers:
Internet Explorer:
(1) Click the "File" menu
(2) Choose "Save As..."
(3) In the resulting dialog box, look at the bottom for the "Save as type:" option, and choose one of the following:
- Web Page, complete (*.htm;*.html) - saves all images and formatting, but makes links point back to "http://wikis.lib.ncsu.edu/..."
- Web Page, HTML only (*.htm;*.html) - saves just the text of the page, with some formatting, making the links local
Firefox/Mozilla:
(1) Click the "File" menu
(2) Choose "Save Page As..."
(3) In the resulting dialog box, look at the bottom for the "Save as type:" option, and choose one of the following:
- Web Page, complete
- Web Page, HTML only
Safari (Mac OS X):
(1) Click the "File" menu
(2) Choose "Save As..."
(3) In the resulting dialog box, look at the bottom for the "Format:" option, and choose one of the following:
- Page Source - saves only the source text of the page (similar to "HTML only" above)
- Web Archive - saves text, images, formatting, etc. (similar to "Web Page, complete" above)
